Data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), at the
end of October, also point to drops of 20% in apples and 15% in almonds.
Spring arable crops were also affected by the severe drought conditions present throughout their vegetative cycle, with production decreases
of 10% in corn for irrigated grain and 15% in rice and tomato for industry.
INE's agricultural forecasts attribute the drop in
production to the climate: "The 2021/22 agricultural year, which took
place between November 1, 2021 and October 31, 2022, was the warmest since
1931, with an average temperature of 16, 4°C (a value similar to those that
occurred in the 1996/97 and 2016/17 agricultural years). It was also the third
least rainy since 1931".
Massive drops and decrease in quality because Farmers did beg-REPEATEDLY- gvrt for help so this wouldn´t be so. To no avail.

So, money would solve the weather issues? That makes total no sense. I worked all my life with pears and apples and no money would solve this year crises. Portuguese agriculture lives from government injections, so scams are everywhere. I have neighbors that scam the gov over 100k with this talk of "we need help" while he afterwards send all the fruit to Spain, put a 'from Spain' sticker and sell it for profit. This is generalized and that is the reason why there is no money, because it is bottomless hole where the more you put, the less you produce. Gov it is not an insurance, just be profitable, force distribution to pay more instead of taking all the margin and hire an insurance.
