According to Sky News, yesterday the British police collected bags from the dam that are believed to contain evidence related to the case.

The investigations are taking place as part of an investigation that aims to gather evidence to prove the involvement of the German citizen Christian Bruecker in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

It had been reported earlier this week, that the Judiciary Police (PJ) was going to start new investigations within the scope of the investigation into the case of Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in May 2007, in the Algarve.

In this context, searches are being carried out at the Arade Dam, in Silves - about 50 kilometres from Praia da Luz, where she disappeared while on holiday with her parents in Portugal.

The Arade Dam had previously been the subject of searches - albeit private - in 2008. In June 2020, the German Public Prosecutor's Office revealed that it had "strong evidence" that supported the conviction that Madeleine was dead, despite not having "forensic evidence".

At the moment, suspicions fall on the German Christian Brueckner, who lived in the Algarve during certain periods between 1995 and 2007.

The suspect lived, at the time of the crime, a few kilometres from the resort of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine McCann's family chose to spend their holidays that year. Phone records accessed by the authorities prove that Christian Brueckner was in the area on the day the girl disappeared.

Christian Brueckner, 45, is serving time in Kiel, Germany, for another crime. He was also accused in October last year by the German court of three crimes of rape and two of sexual abuse of children in Portuguese territory, allegedly committed between 2000 and 2017.
