Friday 25 at 11:00 at Tavira and Tuesday 29 at 18:00 at Lagoa, Peter Booker takes a fresh look at the Life of Henry the Navigator. A Prince of the House of Aviz, Henry is famous for his contribution to the Portuguese discoveries, and for the fantasy of the navigation school at Sagres. As a medieval prince, Henry also followed other and less civilised aims. The reputation of this man is caught between the medieval and modern worlds, and has been subject to more myths than many another historical figure. Peter attempts to set the record straight.

Sunday 11 December at 16:00 at Quintinha da Música, Mauro Dilema takes centre stage for our latest concert. Mauro holds a professorship at the Conservatório at Évora where he teaches piano. He also plays in concerts in various venues, and has recently returned from playing a concert in Lithuania. His programme for this concert includes the Sonata in B Minor by Liszt; the Chaconne by Bach-Busoni; and Four Last Seasons by Eurico Carrapatoso. These pieces demand high technical skill as well as supreme musicianship. Tickets are at €25 and are available from peterbooker1347@gmail.com

Tuesday 13 December at 18:00 at Lagoa and Friday 16 December at 11:00 at Tavira, Peter discusses the life and achievements of Vasco da Gama. This icon of the Portuguese discoveries not only achieved one of the longest voyages in history at that time, but he also stamped an indelible Portuguese mark on the history of the Indian subcontinent. Da Gama´s modern movements are also the subject of much discussion, some of it humorous.

History talks take place in the municipal libraries and attract a voluntary donation. Further information from peterbooker1347@gmail.com or visit them on Facebook.
