Did you know that the Algarve has over 300 days of sunshine a year, and you can be sure that these sunny days will be during the summer months! During the day, when the thermometers are on the rise, take a break from the heat with a day on the beach and let the ocean breezes keep you cool or relax by the pool and refresh yourself with a dip in the water. In the evening the warm temperatures make it perfect for some al fresco dining with friends and family, or why not take a stroll through one of the picturesque towns or villages and treat yourself to an after dinner ice cream.
Breath taking beaches
Any summer break in the Algarve is sure to involve a visit to one of the many award winning beaches all along the coast. Whether you enjoy exploring caves and rock pools, are looking for crystal clear waters or enjoy people watching along some of the vast sandy stretches, there is a beach to fit your needs in the Algarve. The beaches are not only places to catch some rays and have a swim, you can often find some amazing restaurants in these beach front locations, the perfect place to try out some local delicacies and fresh fish with a sea view.
Golfers paradise
There are over 30 golf courses in the Algarve and each one of them is truly stunning, making the Algarve a top pick for anyone looking to take to the greens and fairways while on holiday. From the iconic 16th hole over the cliff tops in Vale do Lobo, to the ocean front golfing experience at Palmares, you will want to make sure you have brought your camera with you to capture the unbelievable views along with your clubs! If you are not a golfer then not a problem because many of the club houses across the region are fantastic places to enjoy food, drinks and entertainment throughout the year and a perfect place for some people watching.
Foodies delight
The Algarve is home to thousands of restaurants and offers foodies the chance to explore not only food from around the globe but also local delicacies and dishes to tempt your taste buds. If you are by the sea then fish and seafood will be on the menu in most cases, while if you venture inland a little then you can try rustic traditional stews and black pork accompanied by a bottle or two of Portuguese wine, which comes in red, white, pink and green varieties, finished off with a glass of port. Perfection!
Within easy reach
The Algarve is a very accessible destination to get to with flight times from most major northern European cities coming in at around only three hours. There are regular flights throughout the week to Faro airport in the Algarve, including from Munich with Lufthansa, from Frankfurt with either Lufthansa or Ryanair and from Dusseldorf with Eurowings or Ryanair. As soon as you land in Faro then your Algarve adventure can truly begin, with the airport only a short drive to most of the major destinations in the region.
Nights in the town
If you enjoy nightlife then the Algarve is the place for you. We like to stay up late here to make the most of the balmy evenings, catching up with friends over a coffee, a beer or a wine in a local café or on the terrace. Whether you are looking to soak up the glamour along Vilamoura marina and watch as the yachts sail in, or prefer wandering the cobbled streets of Lagos looking for that special hole in the wall to dive into, you will always find that the evenings are special in the Algarve. Look out for entertainment too as local areas put on festivals throughout the summer and the majority are free to attend.
A warm welcome
Perhaps the most endearing feature of the Algarve has to be the people who live here! You will be hard pressed to find a warmer welcome than from an Algarvian, who will always be happy to share their local knowledge and proudly inform you of all the beauty that is to be found in this very special corner of southern Europe.
