Sakura, the iconic cherry blossom, is much loved by the Japanese and announces the arrival of Spring.
There are estimated to be over 200 varieties of sakura in Japan. Their flowering is widely celebrated, from casual gatherings under the trees to formal events such as tea ceremonies.
The tea ritual follows the rhythm of the seasons, which has a transversal influence on Japanese culture. Thus, with the taste of matcha and wagashi, a traditional Japanese sweet, spring and the blossoming of flowers are celebrated.
