According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), released today, 316 people are now hospitalised, 15 more than on Tuesday, of which 61 are in intensive care units, one less in the last 24 hours.

The three deaths were registered in the regions of Lisbon (1), North (1) and Autonomous Region of Madeira (1).

Two of the victims were over 80 years old and one between 70 and 79 years old.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 18,144 people have died in Portugal and 1,087,245 cases of infection have been registered.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,839), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old (3,885).

Of the total number of fatalities registered to date, 9,516 in Portugal were men and 8,628 women.

The data released by the DGS also shows over 365 active cases, for a total of 31,243, and that 597 people were reported as recovered from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 1,037,585 recovered.

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities rose (111 more), standing at 21,580.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 583,549 women and 502,852 men, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 744 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically .

Among the new infections, the age group from 20 to 29 years old (over 146) stands out, followed by 50 to 59 years old (over 135), from 40 to 49 (over 130), from 30 to 39 years old (over 127), from 10 to 19 (over 106), from 0 to 9 (over 98), from 60 to 69 (over 80), from over 80 (over 75) and from 70 to 79 (over 68).

In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 395 new infections were reported, with 419,870 cases and 7,721 dead so far in this geographic area.

The Northern region registered 247 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 415,373 cases of infection and 5,597 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.

In the Centre region there were 201 more cases, totalling 146,240 infections and 3,177 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 23 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 40,073 infections and 1,051 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's DGS bulletin counts 68 new cases, accumulating 43,800 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 479 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 22 new cases, totalling 12,607 infections and 74 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.

In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered nine new cases, which raises to 9,282 infections since the beginning of the pandemic and 45 deaths due to the disease.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
