According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released today, 705 people are now hospitalised, 14 more than on Thursday, of which 100 are in intensive care units, minus three.

Of the eight deaths, three occurred in the Centre, three in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and two in the North.

The data show that the victims are between 70 and 79 years old (two men) and over 80 years old (four men and two women).

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,991), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (3,947) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,676).

Among the new infections, the age group from 40 to 49 years old (more 529 cases) stands out, followed by 20 to 29 (446), from 30 to 39 (435), from 0 to 9 years (418), from 50 to 59 years old (391), 60 to 69 years old (350), 10 to 19 years old (346), 70 to 79 years old (207) and over 80 years old (83).

According to the DGS bulletin, in the last 24 hours, the greatest number of infections occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, with 1,031 notifications, accounting for this geographical area, since the beginning of the pandemic crisis, 436,886 cases and 7,811 deaths.

In the North region, there were 926 more cases, totalling 428,389 and 5,639 deaths.

According to the daily report on the epidemiological situation, a further 774 cases of covid-19 were registered in the central region, making a total of 157,244 infections and 3,246 deaths.

The Algarve reported 292 more cases, accumulating 47,685 infections and 501 deaths.

The data also point to the existence of another 74 new cases of infection in Alentejo, totalling 42,011 infections and 1,059 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered, in the last 24 hours, 91 new cases, totalling 14,222 infections and 89 deaths, and the Azores another 17 new cases, totalling 9,992 infections and 48 deaths.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

In the last 24 hours, there were 1,355 more active cases, totalling 50,880, and 1,842 more recovered, increasing the national total to 1,067,173 people.

Compared to Thursday, health authorities have over 3,834 contacts under surveillance, totalling 56,597.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 1,136,446 people - 527,413 men and 608,249 women -, indicate data from the DGS, according to which there are 784 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.
