The defendant was convicted for the crimes of negligent homicide, in its most serious form, omission of assistance and also a crime against the preservation of wildlife and wild species.
The judges of the Court of Vila Real also decided to sentence the hunter to pay compensation of 250,000 Euros to the family of the 28-year-old woman who was killed on 5 July, 2017, while walking with a friend on a straight road along the Estrada Nacional (EN) 15 which connects to the village of Leirós, in the municipality of Vila Real.
The judges ruled that the accused was hunting near the national road when he shot at a wild boar and hit the woman, leaving the area without providing assistance to the victim.
His hunting license and the license to use and carry weapons have been withdrawn and the seized weapons are, by court order, property of the State.
