According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), “localised heavy rainfall is expected, with significant impacts, particularly in urban areas, where there is a risk of rapid flooding, and on some roads”.
“There are still conditions for the occurrence of frequent thunderstorms and very localized extreme wind phenomena”, they state, pointing out that the scenario “should be more severe on the 14th [Tuesday] and 15th [Wednesday]”.
A drop in maximum temperature is also expected on Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday, IPMA puts the districts of Leiria, Lisbon and Setúbal under an orange weather warning for precipitation, during the period between 09:00 and 15:00, predicting the occurrence of “showers, sometimes heavy, of hail and accompanied of strong wind gusts”.
The Madeira archipelago is under a yellow weather warning between 03:00 and 15:00 on Monday, due to the possibility of “frequent and dispersed” thunderstorms and “periods of rain or showers, sometimes heavy”.
This situation occurs “due to the approach of a depression to mainland Portugal”.
