According to the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS released today, 345 people are hospitalised, 11 less than on Monday, of which 56 are in intensive care units, two less in the last 24 hours.

Of the registered deaths, two occurred in the Lisbon region, one in the North, one in the Centre and four in Alentejo.

Seven of the victims were over 80 years old and one between 70 and 79 years old.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 18,056 people have died in Portugal and 1,076,358 cases of infection have been registered.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years (11,779), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years (3,864).

Of the total number of fatalities registered, to date, 9,474 in Portugal were men and 8,582 women.

Data released by the DGS also show that fewer than 330 cases are active, for a total of 29,837, and that 1,041 people were reported as recovered from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the national total to 1,028,465 recovered.

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities dropped (less 793), standing at 22,516.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 578,188 women and 497,429 men, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 741 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.

Among the new infections, the age groups from 20 to 29 years (over 140) and from 40 to 49 (over 105) stand out, followed by 30 to 39 (over 95), from 50 to 59 years (over 76), from 0 to 9 years (over 76), from 60 to 69 (over 58), from 10 to 19 (over 55), from 70 to 79 (over 53) and from over 80 (over 40).

In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 294 new infections were reported, with 415,825 cases and 7,697 dead so far in this geographic area.

The Northern region registered 211 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 412,464 cases of infection and 5,578 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.

In the Centre region there were 129 more cases, totalling 143,970 infections and 3,159 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 34 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 39,513 infections and 1,036 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's DGS bulletin counts 22 new cases, accumulating 43,134 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 471 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 17 new cases, totaling 12,412 infections and 72 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.

In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered 12 new cases, which raises to 9,040 infections since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of deaths remains at 43.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
