“The tendency in reported cases of HIV diagnoses decreased slightly between 2010 and 2019”, says the report by the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC), on the eve of the World AIDS Day, which is highlighted on 1 December.
According ECDC data that Lusa News Agency acceded, the rates were 6.6 cases per 100,000 people at the beginning of this period, decreasing to 5.4 cases per 100,000 people in 2019.
“Several countries, including Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finlandia, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and United Kindiom, have seen decrease in rates of new diagnosis, even after doing some changes in population surveillance coverage and reporting delays”, stressed.
However, “some countries are disproportionately affected by a delay in reporting, so the decrease in rates of new HIC diagnoses can be overestimated”, says. These countries, according to Lusa are Bulgaria and Poland, Cyprus, Malta and Slovakia.
