SIR, The problem regarding loose aggressive dogs in the Algarve has become so bad in recent times, that I stopped walking alone, outside of tourist season, on our local beaches and coastal paths in 2020

Shame on those dog owners who fail to recognise the distress that an unleashed aggressive dog can cause to an older person. Last Christmas, a relative gave a present of a dog zapper. I am back walking alone on our beautiful beaches. Would recommend carrying a dog zapper to anyone running or walking alone.

Even if you are attacked the Police do nothing. They come up with comments like ‘you are okay aren’t you’. This particular lady had to attend hospital for five weeks to have her wounds dressed.
The dogs are still let loose. Some areas of Almadena are No Go Areas.

I was attacked by a pack of dogs whilst cycling through Torre near Armacao De Pera. I was able to cycle away but it was very frightening, the Police are a joke.
