According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) 857 people are now hospitalised with Covid-19, eight more compared to Sunday, 189 of which in intensive care, plus five in the last 24 hours.

The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo area with 374 cases and the North region with 393 have 70.1% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The 18 deaths occurred in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (11), in the North region (4) in Alentejo (2) and in Algarve (1).

Regarding the victims' ages, the bulletin reveals that 11 were over 80 years old, four between 70 and 79 years old, two between 60 and 69 and one between 50 and 59 years old.

With regard to 1,094 infections in the last 24 hours, the bulletin records that 88 are between 0 and 9 years old, 232 between 10 and 19 years old, 290 between 20 and 29 years old, 158 between 30 and 39 years old, 117 between 40 and 49 years old , 78 between 50 and 59 years old, 70 between 60 and 69 years old, 31 between 70 and 79 years old and 30 over 80 years old.

The data released by the DGS also show that there are fewer 199 active cases, totalling 44,734 and that 1,275 people were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 925,842 recovered.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 374 new infections, counts so far with 386,073 cases and 7,474 deaths.

In the Northern region, 393 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 381,862 cases of infection and 5,456 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 87 more cases, accumulating 131,855 infections and 3,056 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 21 more cases were reported, totalling 34,664 infections and 988 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin reveals that 157 new cases were registered, accumulating 34,820 infections and 401 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 34 new cases, totalling 10,889 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have 28 new cases, accounting for 7,898 cases and 38 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,182 were men and 8,303 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 11,436 were over 80 years old, 3,739 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,585 were between 60 and 69 years old.

As for infections, the bulletin reveals that of the total of 988,061 people infected since the beginning of the pandemic, 59,142 were between 0 and 9 years old, 100,480 between 10 and 19 years old, 155,260 between 20 and 29 years old, 146,500 between 30 and 39 years old, 161,820 between 40 and 49 years old, 138,100 between 50 and 59 years old, 93,691 between 60 and 69 years old, 60,155 between 70 and 79 years old and 72,913 over 80 years old.

The incidence rate of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infections in the last 14 days dropped again today in the continent and at the national level, while the transmissibility index (Rt) increased from 0.92 to 0.93.

The joint epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General of Health and the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge, reveals that the national incidence rate (average of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days) dropped to 336.1, when on Friday it was at 362.7.

In mainland Portugal, the incidence rate dropped today to 341.4. On Friday it was at 369.2.

The Rt - which estimates the number of secondary cases of infection resulting from a person carrying the virus - is currently 0.93 throughout the territory of Portugal.

The Rt data and the incidence of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants within 14 days - indicators that make up the risk matrix for monitoring the pandemic - are updated by the health authorities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday .
