In an interview with TVI, António Costa, he said: “We have gone through moments when we feared that we would sink to the bottom. But today, thanks to vaccinations, we are just weeks away from being able to consider having achieved a pandemic control process. It has not disappeared, it will continue to travel around the world, the risks of the multiplication of variants on other continents remain, but we are going to manage to reach a point of safety”.
In the interview, the prime minister argued that the Portuguese economy (in particular companies) showed a high level of resilience, justifying his thesis mainly on the basis of the current unemployment rate.
“Fortunately, we are not on the Titanic, nor is the ship sinking. On the contrary, the boat proved to withstand the storm well. I think we are in a good condition to sail through calm waters”, he added.
In an allusion to the execution of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), António Costa said that he is aware of "the enormous challenges" that his Government faces and refused very negative consequences with the end of State support for the economy and people .
“This trend [in support] has been decreasing. There was a time when the intensity of support was very high, when we had many companies resorting to lay-off and many jobs supported by lay-off, but progressively, this support has ceased to be necessary”, he claimed.
At this point, the prime minister advocated that Portugal “is once again growing above the European average, as happened in 2017, 2018 and 2019”.
All the money that you get from EU.....people here seen very little....and financial institutions seem to just put that money in their pocket. Smell like a lot of corruption. I hope that you actually will help your own people that is going more and more towards poverty. Richer getting rich and poorer getting poorer....WAKE UP!

You should look at Sweden, Texas, Florida, Singapore, Russia and other successful countries who do not use hard restrictions and masks, and still has zero over mortality. In fact, according to the Stanford/Ioannidis study Covid-19 has a low mortality rate similar to regular influenza. These facts show how unnecessary the rigorous Portuguese restrictions have been the last two years.

I wonder if those are the same calmer waters the Partido Socialists spoke about before the country went into bankruptcy in 2010/2011?

Interesting flanneling from an expert.
The people of Portugal receive nothing from the this corrupt government, only taxes to pay.
The rich become richer and the poor poorer.
Will we see transparency with the 16 billion which Portugal will receive, I doubt it and if someone is caught with their hands in the till the laws allow them to go unpunished.
How many examples of this have we seen in the last 20 years and how many more to come?
Vote with your feet!

Part of the problem is misinformation. Frederik from Algarve's comment is incorrect. Florida has lost over 46,ooo people to Covid-19 and they are currently in the deadliest phase yet. Hospitals are overwhelmed and they have had to order refrigerated trucks to store the bodies. Please stop spreading the lie that Florida or Texas is doing a good job. If they were other countries, they would be on the US State Department's "do not travel" list. Lack of mask mandates and refusal to allow businesses to require vaccination is killing people unnecessarily. You should be thankful to have a government in Portugal that is relying on facts/science and putting sensible precautions into place.

I am not sure where Mr. Fredrick is getting his data, but I can assure you that Texas and Florida are surging because of their low covid vaccinations
