Since Brexit and the EU changes in VAT collection I now can’t buy my raw materials from out of the EU with the exception of China
I was just looking at my invoice from Etsy who is an IOSS company and the purpose of paying taxes at source with them is so that your packages clears its final destination without any hitches. So to my surprise Etsy had charged me £16.77 in taxes, and CTT then charged me €28.19 in taxes. So taxes in total:
£40.69 with exchange rates to gbp
€47.96 with exchange rates to euros
I hadn’t actually totalled them up, the goods I bought only totalled £65.70 so that makes the taxes around 66%.
Its quiet obvious that CTT is pricing Portugal out of the market to buy goods outside of the EU except China.
More and more Etsy traders are now not selling and shipping to Portugal. Traders I used no longer will ship me my raw materials.
Disgraceful doesn’t even begin to describe these charges.
Also CTT now no longer accepts emails from residences in Portugal, so you can’t even email to complain.
Linda, By email
CTT can't even deliver local mail on time. This is beyond shameful. Another aspect of how things do not work in Portugal and how there is no will to improve. Portugal is a small country but with massive mismanagement. A shame.

I have a package sent my lil sister in Japan over 3 months stucked in custom. My hubby did several calls over and over again until one called a lady said custom can't release the package due to 'unknown reason' and for the record this package is not the 1st package she ever sent me. The 1st one was no problem at all. We paid the custom fees by describing the value of the items inside. And it's true they don't reply ur emails. I wonder where to complain thou.. Deco Proteste maybe?

I saw Linda's letter re tax and extortionate customs from CTT , quite agree. By huge coincidence I too bead, as a hobby but enter competitions and active in the world of beads. Customs delayed an order from UK so much I ordered a duplicate from Italian ( EU) supplier again taxed , withheld and charged extra ..
CTT appear to found a way to print money hold parcels and tax ... you are a delivery service so try delivering please.

Apart from the huge charges one has to pay is the fact that after the payment is made nothing further happens. The goods do not arrive and your money has gone into a black hole. It is beyond a joke. The reduction of the rate of duty to zero has been prohibitive even when buying small items from China.

But I read that the current situation stems out of new EU regulation on VAT charges, not Portuguese legislation, so albeit frustration is quite understandable, it's likely misdirected towards Portugal. Secondly, don't the new rules apply to China in the same way as other non EU countries???

I read with a smile all the letters of complaints that are published here.
I have a question : why only people from UK are complaining about disservices from local people and service providers?
Is it perhaps that almost all those people do not speak portuguese and do pretend the locals speak their language as they used to do for ages ?
is it all perfect and running like a swiss chronometere back in their country?
I doubt so very much.
If they are not happy here they have a choice: go back to a rainy country and to the awful food of uk and get prepared to pay 3 pounds for an espresso they pay here 70cents .
Stop complaining ,you are no longer the owners of the world and the portuguese people are too kind and gentle to accept your complaints and give a reply as many would deserve.
Crooks in England abounds and millions are cheated with their gaming and stocks tricks.
I live well here and am friendly to the people who is smiling and collaborative much much better than those you may find in UK.
Regards

Our Italian friend obviously might be a little xenophobic himself. The point is about delays and extortionate demands from the Alfandega in Lisbon for items imported from outside EU. Nothing else..
My sister sent me some drawings worth nothing and I paid €55 tax. Ten days later item still in Alfandega. Scandalous. Most of my British friends speak Portuguese - fluency varies
Italy isn't perfect either I heard?
