Alcácer is one of the oldest cities in Europe with records that date back to 1000B.C. Its historical beauty and unique scenery are what make this city a true hidden gem. Close to the cosmopolitan capital of Lisbon, yet only a short distance from beautiful beaches and the dramatic landscapes of the Alentejo, Alcácer do Sal offers everything within only a half an hour drive.

Teatro project

Alcácer Cine Theatre was for decades an important icon to Alcácer do Sal. Located right in the centre of the city, next to the river and the iconic old metal bridge, its presence was never indifferent. Not only for the people of Alcácer do Sal, but also for travelers frequently routing to the south, mostly on their way to the beaches of the Algarve. Its popularity was further enhanced by the well-known restaurant “O Campino” that benefited from the notoriety of the building itself.

The original architectural project, by Amílcar Pinto, dates from 1948, being practically contemporary with the construction of the bridge. These two infrastructures have since collaborated remarkably in the development of the city. The red tone of the building was yet another standout factor in a predominantly white urban context. It was one more bond to the memory of the local and passing population.
