Revenues from tourist activity totalled €892.12 million in November 2021, a value that represents a decrease of 9.5% compared to the same period of 2019, and even reflects an increase of 135.5% compared to the same month of 2020, according to the Bank of Portugal (BdP).
According to data regarding the November Balance of Payments, tourist revenues - which result from spending by foreign tourists in Portugal - showed an approximation to the €986.06 million that had been spent in November 2019, even before the arrival of the pandemic, and were well above the €378.81 million recorded in the same month of 2020.
Ok so enough of the sob stories for the tourist industry.
Time to tax holiday let landlords the same way everyone else is taxed.
I.e tax is payable on the full income not just 25%.
Hotels should also have to pay a surcharge to improve the local communities they inhabit and the habitats they disrupt.
The government needs to focus of making the Algarve a place to live and work, not some highly seasonal soulless holiday camp.
