1. The musical comedy, written by Dan Goggin, is full of light-hearted merriment. But despite its wackiness, Goggin says that every nun is based on someone he knew growing up in the Catholic school system he attended.
  2. The show’s very premise is ridiculous; five nuns from the Little Sisters of Hoboken are staging a musical revue to raise enough money to bury four nuns who died from botulism and are currently stored in the convent freezer.
  3. These are no ordinary nuns but a delightful cast of characters; Reverend Mother Regina still fondly remembers her days as a circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices, provides a perfect sidekick to her Mother Superior; Sister Robert Anne is a streetwise nun from Brooklyn; Sister Mary Leo, the novice, is a wannabe ballerina; and Sister Mary Amnesia is a delightfully ditsy nun who due to a blow to the head from a falling crucifix can’t remember why she’s there at all.
  4. The production features lots of catchy songs, some tap-dancing nuns and a pinch of puppetry.
  5. But there’s also plenty of nonsense in Nunsense.
  6. Nunsense has benefited from having two directors; Paul Kloegman brings his skills in characterisation and line delivery, while Frank Remiatte contributes his enormous experience in musical theatre. Together with choreographer Shelly Danca and musical director Shirley Devlin, they will ensure that the show is as entertaining and professional as it can be.
  7. Live theatre provides a great evening’s entertainment. And surely you’ve had enough of dodgy karaoke by now?
  8. The play will be performed in English at the 300-seat Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, Lagoa.

  10. Dan Goggin himself sent a personal message to The Algarveans expressing his best wishes for the show, saying “we sure need laughs these days!’
