The alert was given at around 11:30am, after the sighting of a body floating in the Cidrão stream, and the Volunteer Firefighters of Câmara de Lobos, the municipality to which the parish belongs, attended the scene with two vehicles and five personnel.

The rescue operation ended around 15:00.

A source from the firefighters confirmed to the Lusa agency that it was the body of a man, but did not provide any data regarding his identity, nor the circumstances in which the death occurred.

The parish of Curral das Freiras is located in the interior of Câmara de Lobos, a municipality adjacent to Funchal to the west.
