The data was shared by the Emigration Observatory, a study
and research centre based in the official statistics department of Citizenship
and Immigration Canada.
In 2021, this department accounted for 406,005 foreigners
entering Canadian territory that year, of which 0.2% were Portuguese.
These 890 entries from Portuguese in 2021 represent the
highest value since 2000. The lowest value was recorded in 2003 (329 entries).
According to a statement from the Emigration Observatory,
“Portuguese emigration to Canada continues to represent a very small fraction,
both of immigration in this country (0.2%) and of total Portuguese emigration
(less than 1%)”, however the increase of 61.8% in comparison to the previous
year was significant.
