The information states that the fatalities resulting from accidents between 26 August and 1 September, came to a total of 60 occurrences, which were recorded in the municipalities of Funchal and Câmara de Lobos.
This year, Madeira has recorded nine fatalities as a result of road accidents.
In the distribution by municipalities, Funchal is the area with the most occurrences (22), followed by the adjacent municipality to the west, Câmara de Lobos (10) and Machico, in the east of Madeira (eight).
In Porto Santo, one of the destinations most sought after by Madeirans in the summer months, where the resident population - in the order of 5,000 people - increases fivefold, the PSP recorded two accidents.
This week, road surveillance operations resulted in 13 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol, four for not holding a valid license and finally another for a person refusing to take a breath test, indicates the PSP in the note.
