As part of the monthly package of infringement proceedings
to Member States for non-compliance with Community legislation, the Commission
once again urged the Portuguese authorities to take the necessary measures with
a view to the correct and complete transposition of two directives related to
noise, recalling that “the European Green Deal sets a goal of zero pollution,
including the fight against noise pollution, which benefits public health, the
environment and climate neutrality”.
The community executive explains that “the first case
concerns a change in the annex on dose-effect relationships, which describe the
impact of exposure to certain levels of noise on human health”, and the second
refers to “a change in the annex on common noise assessment methods, which are
used to produce information on the levels of environmental noise to which
citizens are exposed”.
The European Commission underlines that “the information is
intended to be used in the elaboration of noise maps and in the adoption of
action plans based on the results of the noise mapping”.
Noting that “the deadline for the transposition of both
Commission directives was December 2021” and that it sent Portugal letters of
formal notice – the first step of an infringement procedure – in January 2022,
the Commission notes that, “ to date, Portugal has not transposed the new
rules”.
“Therefore, the Commission decided to issue, for each of the
two cases, reasoned opinions to Portugal, which now has two months to respond
and adopt the necessary measures. Otherwise, the Commission may decide to bring
proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union”, concludes the
community executive.
Besides the declining democracy, guns and hurricanes in Miami and the US, one of the main reasons I am moving to Porto from Miami is the abusive noise pollution. The automobile and motorcycle lobbies have done away with inspection stations to curb emissions pollution and the addition of various devices allowed to attach to a car's exhaust system/muffler andmake your car as loud as the combination of a leaf blower, llawnmower and a racecar is really abominable!
It's the macho contest of whose car can make the most noise so people will notice you, a very sick fantasy of the mentally deprived. You can hear these cars and motorcycles like they're in your living room and when they pass by your house you miss what they're saying on tv. I hope Portugal complies with the EU as they have the correct solution to combating this problem and when I was in Porto for 10 days I hardly heard but a few motorcycle groups traveling together entering the highway thank God! Protect your rights to peace and quiet, except for parties of course lol, until 10 maybe, more??? But that's what the clubs are for.
