The baby-friendly criteria was based on the
percentage of hotels with family rooms, sourced from Booking.com on the 25th
July 2022, a safety index score, average temperature, average rainfall and baby
friendly activities, which led to giving each country an overall baby friendly
travel score.
Portugal is known for its beautiful weather,
gorgeous beaches and delicious cuisine which is why it comes as no surprise
that it has ranked third in the world for being the most baby friendly
destination. If you are looking for a baby friendly holiday, then look no
further as Portugal has been named as one of the most ideal places to visit
with children, following Turkey in second place and Greece in first place,
whose total baby-friendly travel score was 8 out of 10.
Portugal was not too far behind with a total
baby-friendly travel score of 7.45 out of 10. From the data collected 49
percent of all Portuguese hotels offer a family room option for those
travelling with children.
Portugal ranked second in the top 10 in the world
for safety, only being beaten by Czech Republic who scored 74.48 in comparison
to Portugal’s safety index which was 70.37. Portugal’s Safety Index is higher
than the average of the countries studied including Greece who achieved 59.68
out of 100.
The average annual temperature in Portugal is 15.2°C (59.27°F) which is important when considering the most baby-friendly travel destination, especially when it comes to rainfall. Portugal receives around 591mm of precipitation each year.
The number of child-friendly activities sourced
from Tripadvisor on 20th July 2022, where they considered every country with at
least 300 children’s activities on Tripadvisor. With the data establishing that
Portugal has 2,589 baby-friendly activities, which included Lisbon’s Oceanarium
and while the gorgeous São Rafael beach and Benagil beach are also listed.
