A report by ECO confirmed the existence of constraints in
accessing the digital platforms of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Santander Totta,
Novobanco, Montepio and Banco CTT. The failure is not affecting all Portuguese
banks.
An official source from Caixa Geral de Depósitos confirmed
to ECO that problems were detected at 9:30 am and “the IT teams are working on
the matter”. "We don't know the reason behind the problem," he added.
Meanwhile, the bank's official source said that the service "Caixadirecta
is already working via computer", but that it remains unavailable on the
app.
Novobanco also confirmed to ECO this morning that home banking
is unavailable, assuring that the technical issue will be resolved as soon as
possible. It was not possible to access the bank through the website or mobile
application.
These technical limitations take place on the day the check
for 125 euros begins to be paid for non-pensioners with incomes up to 2,700
euros gross monthly, to help mitigate against the rising cost of living.
Maybe it was overloaded with the recipients of the IRS €125 handout, desperate to grab the money and buy a loaf of bread and some cheese.
