It started as a joke by a French internet user and influencer - who identifies himself as Gaspardo - about the lack of geographic knowledge of North Americans -, but quickly gained life, with an anthem, currency, flag and... entry in the Paris Olympic Games.
But there
are more interesting facts about Listenbourg. And one of them is that it
borders Portugal - having 'swallowed' part of the North and Minho.
The joke
went (even) further, with an alleged national anthem and flag appearing on
Twitter.
Listenbourg
is also part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit, as well as having astronauts
on a mission to the moon.
Why is this news?
Don't you have to tell us how hot summers and cold winters can be?
How water hydrates, fruit is healthy and how Portugal is number xyz on some list nobody cares about?

Fascinating. What', say, is the percentage of Portuguese that can find Belgium on a map?

This makes perfect sense to me as an American moving to Portugal eager to learn the language and enjoy the traditions. When you have Fox News conspiracy theorist Tucker Carlson (heir to Swanson TV Dinners) lying about the elections and dividing the people with a 68% TV share , not just news, all of it and the brainwashed followers that are going to vote on Tuesday so that there will NEVER be another fair election, only for show like Hungary, Russia, Turkey, Mussolini, Hitler, ALL elected and the US will no longer be a democracy, you can see how he twists and divides France and the US taking a harmless little joke and using it to divide people. We should be concentrating on respecting each other instead of this nonsense. I hope Portugal can remain strong as a republic. Social media, the smart phone which made everyone dumb and zombie distracted and the cable news network Fox have destroyed the US and now they want to break the ties with our allies with this kind of junk! Where there's smoke.....Be very aware Portugal and watch your/our government and VOTE; don't be lazy or it will slip away and there won't be many nice countries left to move to; only authoritarian dictatorships; you don't need tanks or an army to ravage the streets.

I always laughed my ass off when the French visiting Mexico complained that they could not get good bread and cheese when I used to live there...Oui monsieur... La merde vient de partout...

Wes, do not move here! We don't want you. You stay in Brandon's America which you helped create.
The nerve of these delusional nutjobs to destroy their own cities, turn them into hellholes, and then run off somewhere lovely and deeply traditional, to replicate their nihilistic deranged approach.
By Hart from Lisbon on 07 Nov 2022, 12:58
The folks coming to Portugal from the USA are WOKE individuals who see their nonsense losing its grip at home so are bringing it to Portugal…good news they’ll leave shortly as we reject it too.

Yes, there are a lot of ignorant, poorly educated people in the US. And in the UK, and Portugal.... How many people in France or Portugal know that New Mexico is a state, let alone be able to point it out on a map? How many could point out Wales? The events of the past few years in the US, UK, Brasil, Israel, India, Russia, etc. show that the US doesn't have a monopoly on idiocy.

Blackhart and Roy: WOW, I had no idea how unhappy you must be with your lives and how much hate comes out in your posts with the right wing terms like Brandon and nihilistic and deranged calling me "woke" and a "nut job." What ever happened to having a descent and respectful posting of your views to discuss with others: sadly you have come to this? I'm coming like I said with respect to learn your language, enjoy (meaning take part in) your traditions and to work with the elderly homeless. I'm coming as Portugal is a "Republic" and all the people I've made friends with in Portugal on my stays were welcoming and friendly and discussed politics without the vitriol and venom you display. I bought property but you can be sure it won't be anywhere near you as I distance myself from prople that display hate and negativity and you won't stop me from contributing my spare time to helping others. lol Feel better guys; you've got people skills work to do with respect to others. The Golden Rule is "do unto others" and Karma is what you do comes back to you; that's a good place to start!
By Wes from USA on 08 Nov 2022, 03:29
First wes insults, calls everyone names, and then he's all 'waaaaaa decency, respect, stop being so mean to me waaaaaaa'.
Nutjob. Like the rest of them. Stay where you are! Don't trip over needles and human faeces while going to vote for Brandon who doesn't even know his own name. Bye.

Well it seems people around where they need to calm down . As far the Americans coming I don't have a problem where I live in Sintra I have a lot American friends . But they need respect the costumes and adapt to another country and another culture and another way of life and try to learn the language this will be helping them to integrate more and not fell so feel isolated in the community . And to any other people that come they need to realize that not all the people in Portugal are oblige to talk in English with them or anyone else they need to make a effort to learn the language this way will help to integrate in the community . I did lived many years in the UK and I respect their habits and costumes and made a effort to learn the language and it was the only way to live their
