The 'Plastic free beach' operation ran from Castelo do Queijo beach to Carneiro beach, according to NM.
In total, 115 kilos of waste were collected, and, "in just one hour, 1,200 cigarette butts were collected", highlighted the same note.
"This type of action aims to raise awareness among young people about the environmental consequences that are caused by the presence of rubbish on the beaches", stressed the Navy.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Porto City Council and the National Maritime Authority.
This is excellent news! The more clean ups the better,I say. Better still would be if the rubbish wasn't thrown away to begin with, especially the plastic! Imagine if Portugal could one day get rid of all the litter on beaches and in the countryside, villages, towns and cities. It would be amazing! It would show the world what can be achieved. It would be something we could all be proud of.
