The event will occur on Saturday and Sunday, at the Largo D. Dinis and the surrounding spaces in the medieval core of the city.
According to the municipality, the initiative intends to contribute to promoting tourism in the municipality, leaning on a historic recreation of the medieval age, with themes relating to Queen Saint Elizabeth (13th/14th centuries).
The queen Saint Elizabeth of Portugal, consort of King Dinis, passed away on the 4th July 1336, in Estremoz, after falling ill while acting as a mediator between two armies.
The event begins on Saturday, at 10am, with a parade between the Rainha Santa Isabel secondary school and the Largo D. Dinis, passing through the tradition marketplace at Rossio Marquês de Pombal, and ends on Sunday, at 8pm.
The programme includes musical entertainment, a fire show, eastern and pilgrimage dances, and medieval tournaments.
The event, which boasts free entry, also features the show “Elizabeth of Estremoz”, on Saturday at 11:30pm, at the Largo D. Dinis, produced by Décadas de Sonho.
During the festival, there’ll also be a diverse array of scenes of the epoch occurring as well as other entertainment on the grounds, such as artisans, merchants and taverns.
The initiative is organised by the municipality and Estremoz’s Rainha Santa Isabel secondary school’s Tourism Technician Course and Environmental and Rural Tourism Technician Course.
