Turning on the air conditioning uses, according to recent studies and reported in NM, extra fuel that can increase by 30% in city driving and 20% more in motorway driving. However, consumption can become even higher depending on the temperatures you set.
In a typical air conditioning system, Consumer Reports state that if you select a temperature higher than the minimum you will be forcing the system to reheat air that was already cold.
This requires more effort from the system and consequently increases fuel consumption.
So set your temperatures to a minimum for the most efficient use of air conditioning in your car.
Apparently the article was written by Portuguese taxi driver, thia is the only county where taxi drivers turn on air conditioner if only windscreen is foggy

Simple solution: don't use it! Wind the windows down, and air will enter your car, cooling you down. Common sense, anyone?
The other stupid thing I see drivers doing is trying to clean their windscreen using the car's fluid while driving at 90km/h. At that speed, you'll spray the car windscreen behind you, not yours!

Forget winding your windows down as you will be breathing in diesel fumes from the crazy amount of diesel vehicles that are on the roads in Portugal.
Everytime you drive here with windows open you are smoking a whole packet of cigarettes
