“This measure stems from the activation of the special red-level alert state - of the Integrated Protection and Rescue Operations System - for the Special Fire Fighting Device (which represents the maximum level of readiness and mobilisation of structures, forces and fire units) in some areas of mainland Portugal”, explained ANEPC in a statement.
The written text message – in Portuguese and English, at no cost to users – warns against using fire in rural and forest areas and to comply with the recommendations of the authorities.

My foreign number received the SMS, but my Portuguese subscription phone did not.
During the huge and potentially dangerous brush fire in our area a few weeks ago, a neighbor told us a GNR officer told him to be ready to evacuate.
No SMS warnings were received.
This system is not working very well.
