According to INE, between April and June 2023, 33,624 homes were transacted in Portugal, of which 31,089 were sold to buyers with tax domicile in Portugal. This is a year-on-year decrease of 23.8% and a reduction of 2.8% compared to the previous quarter.
“In this period, sales of housing to buyers with tax domicile outside the national territory decreased by 8.9%, to a total of 2,535 units, representing 7.5% of the total, the highest percentage in the series started in the 1st quarter of 2019 ”, notes INE.
Among “foreign” transactions referring to buyers with tax domicile outside the national territory showed, for the second consecutive quarter, different behaviours in the two categories analysed.
Purchases by tax resident buyers included in the other countries category increased by 10.8% to 1,361 homes.
With regard to the amount invested in the acquisition of houses by citizens residing in Portugal, it exceeded 6.0 billion euros. To this amount we must add the amount spent by foreign citizens of the EU (349.2 million euros) and other countries (522.1 million euros).
