This is an initiative that, according to the councillor for Mobility and Transport of the CM of Coimbra, Ana Bastos, will provoke “a complete reformulation of the city”.
The document foresees a network of 110 kilometres of structural cycle paths, which may have the potential to attract a greater number of cyclists and which connect the city, between major points of origin and major points of attraction, and 125 kilometres on a local network.
The municipal plan involves an investment of around 25 million euros, but the costs could be higher if they are associated with the requalification of underground infrastructures, said the councillor. According to Ana Bastos, the implementation of the network will be very dependent on financing, criticising the fact that the Government launched, in 2019, the National Strategy for Active Cycling Mobility without an associated financial package.
