According to Lusa's calculations based on data from the Bank of Portugal, emigrants sent, from January to September this year, 2,966.4 million euros, which represents an increase of 2.89% compared to the first nine months of last year.
Conversely, foreigners working in Portugal sent 44.1 million euros to their countries of origin, contributing to the 8.9% increase, to 432.15 million euros, in remittances sent from January to September this year compared to the same period in 2022, in which they sent 396.8 million euros.
Brazilians in Portugal represent around half of the total remittances sent to their countries of origin, having sent 212.4 million euros to the Portuguese-speaking country in South America from January to September, which represents an increase of almost 10% compared to the 193.74 million euros they had sent in the first nine months of last year.
