The historic luxury hotel in the centre of Porto has joined the esteemed Hospes Hotels brand, an internationally renowned hotel group, after undergoing a thorough refurbishment and revision of its design, services, and products. With the restoration of the hotel's status as the Grande Dame and the re-establishing of its position of elegance and grandeur, this milestone heralds the start of an exciting new chapter for the establishment.
All 85 of the hotel’s rooms and suites, including the magnificent Superior, Deluxe, Deluxe Premium, Junior Suite, Premium Suite, and the impressive Royal Suite, were upgraded during the course of the twelve-month refurbishment. Redecorated by the famous Porto architecture firm Nano Design, who combined modern elegance with history through an Age of Discovery-inspired design direction, the space was nicely reinvented. The interiors honour Luís Vaz de Camões' famous Portuguese epic poem “Os Lusíadas” and Prince Henry the Navigator, popularly known as Infante Sagres.
Francisca Navio, founder of Nano Design has shared that “Since this is an emblematic hotel in the city, we believed that a historical and impactful storytelling was necessary to provide a good basis for developing the interior design project. By associating the Infante de Sagres, the driving force behind the discoveries, with the famous epic poem “Os Lusíadas” by Luís Vaz de Camões, we were able to explore the history of Portugal and revive the soul of the hotel, enhancing the beauty of the existing architecture of what was the first five-star hotel in Porto”.
The hotel gains a new dimension as a result of its integration into the Hospes Hotels group, which also aligns it with the reputation of outstanding service and luxury in boutique hotels. The Hospes brand is renowned for its dedication to genuine encounters and cultural legacy. As Manuel Olivares, CEO of Hospes Hotel Group said, “We are thrilled to welcome Hotel Infante Sagres as the latest addition to the award-winning Hospes portfolio, joining our esteemed group of 10 luxury boutique hotels with a legacy of excellence. It is an honour to be part of the revitalisation of the iconic Hotel Infante Sagres and elevate it to new heights whilst preserving its heritage as the first five-star hotel to open in Porto in 1951”.
By improving its offerings and maintaining its historical value, the refurbishment seeks to re-establish its prominence and aims to be known as Porto's ultimate luxury establishment once more. Jean Hélière, General Manager of Hospes Infante Sagres, expressed his enthusiasm: “It is a privilege to witness the rebirth of Porto's first five-star hotel and to be part of the Hospes family. Located in the historic centre, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the completely renovated hotel magnificently combines luxury and tradition, reflecting the values of the Hospes brand and paying homage to Portugal's cultural heritage”.
