The estimate for 2024 does not, however, reach the level recorded in 2019, when the Portuguese expected to spend an additional 347 euros.
The data comes from Observador Cetelem, a commercial brand of the BNP Paribas Personal Finance group, which analyzed the Portuguese people's "intentions for summer holidays" for 2024.
The same study revealed that a quarter of Portuguese people "intend to spend more than last year during the summer holiday period". On the other hand, 20.0% plan to spend less and 48.0% the same.
"Half of Portuguese people also say they intend to use their credit card to pay for summer vacation expenses, a lower number when compared to 2022 (64.0%)", reads the study's conclusions.
At the same time, the number of Portuguese people who are planning summer holidays outside Portugal has increased, "although the citizens choosing our country for their rest period still represent a majority".
When it comes to selecting a destination, the financial cost is the factor that weighs most in the choice (49.0%), followed by "the type of vacation desired" (27.0%), the "attractiveness of the destination" ( 17.0%) and "recommendation from family and friends" (4.0%).
