“We already have houses on fire at this moment. We have one house on fire in Cruzinha and another in the town of Laranjeiras. These are first homes”, the mayor of Albergaria-a-Velha, António Loureiro, told Lusa.
The mayor also said that the authorities had already evacuated the Brandão Gomes neighbourhood and that the area of Cruzinha had also been asked to be evacuated.

The Council also decided that there would be no classes today at schools, and a meeting point was set up for the population next to the cinema in the centre of Albergaria, said António Loureiro.
“At the moment, the fire is spreading across the entire municipality. We do not have the resources. At the moment, one of the biggest problems is the lack of resources”, said the mayor.
A large cloud of smoke is currently covering the city of Aveiro due to the fire.
