With the worsening of weather conditions and the intensification of waves, inspections were reinforced to “detect and respond to possible attacks along the coastline”, with the authorities finding and seizing bales of drugs in three points in the western (western) Algarve, reported the GNR in a statement.
“The GNR, through the Coastal and Border Control Unit and the Faro Territorial Command, on the 6th and 7th of January, seized 93.6 kilos of hashish, as part of intensified patrolling actions, along the Algarve coast”, says the note.
On Monday, in Rebolos/Burgau, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, GNR officers who were patrolling the beach found “a bulky object close to the surf”, which was later confirmed, “to be a bundle of burlap with product inside.”
Also on Monday, a report highlighted the presence of “another bundle of burlap” on Mareta/Sagres beach which took military personnel to this coastal area of Vila do Bispo to confirm the existence of a “second bundle of narcotic product, accompanied by a canister with 25 litres of fuel”.
The security forces said that the third seizure was made on Tuesday, 7 January, on Vale da Lapa beach, in the municipality of Lagoa, where “several packages were found next to the surf” that “contained narcotic products”, added the GNR.
In total, the GNR recorded the seizure of 93.6 kilos of hashish.
“The operation was conducted in a coordinated manner by the UCCF and the Faro Territorial Command, involving land and sea patrol teams in the most relevant coastal areas of the Algarve region”.
