“In December, accommodation units in the Algarve recorded an increase of 1.0 percentage points in the occupancy rate per room, compared to the same month in 2023”, AHETA reported in a statement, adding that the occupancy rate "was 34.9%, above the value recorded in 2023 (+1.0 percentage point, +3.0%)”.
The Algarve business association, based in Albufeira, said that the tourist-sending markets that contributed most to the increase in occupancy were the Dutch and German markets, which recorded year-on-year increases of 1.2 and 0.2 percentage points, respectively.
As for the national market, identified as one of the main visitors to the region during the New Year period, AHETA data recorded an “annual drop of 0.4 percentage points” in the last month of last year.
The Algarve's main hotel association also pointed out that the average stay was 3.3 nights, a figure it classified as “similar” to that obtained in December 2023.
The Norwegian market, with an average of 8.4 nights, and the Dutch market, with 6.9, were those that recorded "longest average stays" in Algarve accommodation units, AHETA also said.
