The Port of Lisbon achieved six new absolute records in 2024. In total, 763,752 passengers were reached, representing 5,424 more than in 2023, while in total, 369 stopovers were reached, 16 more than in the previous year. As for transit passengers, the Port of Lisbon reports that 591,769 were registered over the last year, 7% above the previous record of 554,324 in 2023, while turnaround stops total three more than in 2023 (110 vs. 107), and on cruise ships, there were 133, three more than in 2019. Finally, with regard to cruise crew members, the new record was 288,049, 3% more than the 279,090 in 2023, according to Publituris.
In terms of origin, Europe continues to lead as the main source market for cruise passengers in Lisbon, with the United Kingdom standing out, individually responsible for 41% of total passengers, followed by the United States (20%) and Germany (14%).
The positive evolution of cruise activity in the Port of Lisbon is also reflected in the number of ships, with 15 making their first call in Lisbon, of which four were newly built, including three maiden voyages.
Carlos Correia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of APL, highlighted that “the extraordinary results of cruises in 2024 reflect the excellence of the Port of Lisbon, the unconditional commitment of our employees and the fundamental contribution of the entire port community, in particular Lisbon Cruise Port (LCP), concessionaire of the Cruise Terminal”.
Duarte Cabral, general director of LCP, considers that 2024 was marked by “significant challenges, but also by a notable consolidation of Lisbon as a destination of excellence for cruise tourism in Europe” and highlights the “close collaboration with the Administration of the Port of Lisbon and the continued support of all authorities involved”, through which LCP “was able to face and overcome obstacles, promoting the sustainable growth of this vital sector for the local economy”.
