This investment aims to “modernise and expand the waste collection system, reinforcing the sustainability and quality of urban space.”

“The installation of underground ecological islands, which includes the acquisition of 18 underground containers for undifferentiated waste and 10 underground ecopoints, had as its main objective to increase the efficiency and accessibility of the waste management system, in addition to contributing to the improvement of the urban landscape. The new infrastructures were distributed across strategic locations, selected to ensure convenience and efficiency in waste collection”, according to Lagoa City Council.

This intervention is part of “a series of measures that Lagoa City Hall has been implementing to promote more sustainable practices, encourage recycling and reinforce environmental awareness among the population. The installation of new underground containers contributes to a more hygienic, efficient waste management system adapted to the needs of the community, in addition to improving the aesthetics of the city and reducing the amount of waste on public roads.”

“The implementation of these new underground ecological islands is one of the central axes of our commitment to sustainability and the continuous improvement of the quality of life of our citizens. This action is part of a broader project to modernize our city and promote good environmental practices, in line with the values that guide this mandate,” said Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa.
