The company Master Natura - Gestão de Espaços Verdes will be responsible for the intervention, having been chosen during a public tender, reveals Postal.
The requalification works will correct some of the space's dysfunctions, as well as promote its revitalisation. In this way, the Jardim da Fortaleza can once again become a popular green area for leisure and contemplation.
The project includes the recreation of some areas that are well known to the locals, such as the viewpoint on the cliff to the west and the seating area near the fortress. There are also plans to renovate accesses and introduce contemporary elements, such as steel railings, modernised public lighting and more up-to-date street seating. All the changes will take into account the existing spaces, and it is proposed to integrate new elements while respecting the existing ones.
Fauna will also be adjusted. Species typical of Mediterranean areas will be introduced, as well as species that emphasise the Algarve landscape while maintaining the garden's original character.
The work is expected to last seven months and aims to beautify one of Praia da Rocha's best-known spaces, which is valued for its historical value and location, offering views of the sea that will impress any visitor.
The municipality of Portimão states that it is “committed to preserving and enhancing this unique space, giving back to the community and visitors a privileged place of contemplation and leisure.”
