Portugal has only one name in the table: Maria Fernanda Amorim and her family, who occupy 597th position.
With a fortune of $342 billion, Musk is followed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg with $216 billion and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with a net worth of $215 billion. They are followed by Larry Ellison, co-founder and former CEO of Oracle, with $192 billion, and Bernard Arnault, fashion and cosmetics magnate, who topped the list in 2023 and 2024 with $178 billion.
"Wealth has increased this year like never before. This year's list includes 3,028 billionaires, the highest number since the list began in 1987," the magazine noted in a statement.
Rounding out the second half of the top 10 are philanthropist and entrepreneur Warren Buffett, with $154 billion, Google co-founders Larry Page, $144 billion, and Sergey Brin, $138 billion, Spanish textile entrepreneur Amancio Ortega, $124 billion, and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, $118 billion.
This is the 39th edition of the Forbes list, whose members have accumulated a total net worth of US$ 16.1 trillion this year, a historic record for this ranking. "A record 15 people worldwide now have 12-figure fortunes, up from 14 last year and zero in 2017," Forbes added in the statement.
In the case of Musk, whose net worth has increased 75% in the past year, the rise to the top spot is due to "strong new valuations for xAI and SpaceX, and a 12-month rally in Tesla shares despite the recent sell-off."
There is only one Portuguese name on the list. This is Maria Fernanda Amorim and her family (Amorim family), whose fortune is valued at 5.9 billion dollars (5.4 billion euros). However, she fell in the ranking: last year she occupied 522nd place and this year she appears in 597th position. This is despite her fortune having increased by around 200 million dollars (185 million euros) in a year.
The 90-year-old Portuguese multimillionaire and her three daughters, Paula, Marta and Luísa, inherited the fortune from Américo Amorim, who died in July 2017. At the origin of the fortune was Corticeira Amorim e Irmãos, founded in Mozelos, Santa Maria da Feira. Furthermore, Forbes highlights that it invested in the energy and banking sectors in several countries.
The Amorim family's largest asset, Forbes highlights, "is an estimated 19.5% stake in the Portuguese oil and gas company Galp Energia", which is chaired by Paula Amorim.
