Praia Fluvial da Tapada Grande - Mina de São Domingos

The Praia Fluvial da Tapada Grande da Mina de São Domingos, located in the municipality of Mértola, is an oasis in the heart of Alentejo. The fully equipped river beach, awarded with a blue flag, offers a blend of natural beauty and modern amenities.

Praia Fluvial da Albufeira de Santa Clara

Odemira municipality is renowned for its stunning coast, but its interior also has a lot to offer. Located 40 kilometres from the village of Odemira, not too far from the border of the Algarve, you’ll find the picturesque Praia Fluvial da Albufeira de Santa Clara.

Nestled in the serene shore of the reservoir of the dam, you can find the bathing area with a floating platform that creates two open pools – one meant for children and the other for adults. The pool area has enough space to fit up to 20 people, offering a peaceful swimming experience alongside fish. For those who want more space to swim, stairs lead to the outer edges of the floating platform, where you can further explore the waters of the dam.

Along the path to the fluvial beach, picnic tables are scattered at various levels, each offering unique views of the dam and its lush natural surroundings. The car park is conveniently equipped with bathroom facilities for visitors.

For those seeking extra adventures, there are also boat tours, canoe rentals, and even fishing trips to catch achigã (Largemouth bass), a plentiful fish species found in the dam. Whether you’re looking to relax or enjoy some outdoor activities such as fishing and hiking, at this beach you can have it all.

Praia Fluvial dos Cinco Reis - Beja

Just 7 kilometres away from the city of Beja lies the Fluvial Parque de Cinco Reis within the Cinco Reis Reservoir. This recreational area, which opened in 2020, was designed to be a major destination for beachgoers, especially those who live in the region away from the coast, offering various activities that make the most of Alentejo’s landscape.

Cinco Reis River Beach is equipped with all the necessary environmental, safety, and comfort amenities to ensure a pleasant visit, earning the ‘Praia + Acessível’ 2020 award for its accessibility. The long sandy beach has beach umbrellas and sun loungers for hire, as well as a snack bar with a charming terrace overlooking the water that serves drinks and local snacks.

For water enthusiasts, the park’s nautical centre offers exciting activities like canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle and for the kids, there’s also a playground. Moreover, fitness lovers can explore the maintenance circuit that winds around the reservoir, which is perfect for a scenic workout, whilst nature enthusiasts can do some birdwatching at wooden stations.

Two parking areas make access easy, and the entire park is designed to be fully accessible for visitors with reduced mobility. However, its tranquil location means mobile network coverage may be limited, allowing for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle.

Praia Fluvial do Pego Fundo - Alcoutim

Located in the serene rural landscape of northeast Algarve, this river beach has quickly become a favourite for families. The beach is settled along the Cadavais River, a tributary of the Guadiana River, near the village of Alcoutim and offers fine white sand and warm waters, making it an ideal destination for young children and babies.

Surrounded by scenic landscapes filled with native plants, the area also features a space for picnics. The water temperature, which can reach up to 30ºC, adds to the appeal, creating a safe, comfortable environment for everyone.

The beach is equipped with excellent facilities, including toilets, changing rooms, showers, a lovely support bar, and for the sports lovers, there is also a beach volleyball court.

This peaceful refuge in Alcoutim provides a perfect retreat for those seeking a break from the Algarve’s crowded beaches and cold waters, offering a blend of nature, relaxation, and excellent infrastructure for a family-friendly experience.
