This reinforcement of surveillance of beaches on the mainland, within the scope of the “Praia Segura 2025” project, currently has 14 “Volkswagen Amarok” vehicles equipped for rescue and two “ID.Buzz” for logistical support in rescue and assistance, which were formally handed over to ISN today by SIVA, within the scope of the company's social responsibility.

In total, in the 2025 summer season, the Maritime Authority will have 36 vehicles equipped for surveillance and rescue (34 “Amarok” and two “ID.Buzz”).

According to the director of the ISN, captain Jorge Lourenço Gorricha, the vehicles “will allow, from now on, to operate a set of resources over the next 10 days, which is expected”, despite the unstable weather, in many areas of the country there will be “some influx of bathers” due to the Easter holidays and the following long weekend.

The vehicles will be in service mainly in areas of the Center and South, where several indicators indicate that there may be a greater influx of bathers, he added.

The official warned that bathers should avoid risky behaviour, as the sea is still in winter and poses dangers that are not perceived by citizens.

The bathing season generally takes place between June 1st and September 30th, with all resources employed for surveillance and rescue.

Despite the unstable weather, this year there have been sunny days when the beaches were full of holidaymakers.
