A Vineyard with a Rich Heritage

The Agrellos family’s connection to the Douro region began in the mid-18th century when Carlos Lopes Agrellos settled here. For generations, the family produced and exported Port wine under the Casa Agrellos brand. Even today, despite the challenges, you can still find bottles of their 1870 Port wine. Over the years, the family has maintained their presence in the region, including their family home, Quinta Casa da Capela, in São Mamede de Ribatua.

Thirty-five years ago, José Carlos de Sousa Pinto Agrellos, a great-grandson of Carlos Lopes Agrellos, and his wife, Marjorie Kathleen Durham Agrellos, purchased the property now known as Quinta da Marka. In the early 21st century, they rebuilt the pre-existing house and winery, transforming it into a modern facility capable of producing high-quality table wines.

Today, Quinta da Marka is managed by Durham Agrellos (Vinhos) Lda., a partnership between José Carlos and his three sons. Over the years, they have built a reputation for producing exceptional Douro white and red wines, including selected harvests and high-quality reserves. The family’s flagship wine, MARKA, is named in honor of Marjorie Kathleen Durham Agrellos, whose vision played a key role in the project’s success.

Seven years ago, the family entered a long-term joint venture with Quinta do Noval, part of AXA Millésimes. As a result, Vinhas da Marka Quinta do Noval terroir series was launched and has been widely praised.
