According to the information, the Chamber of Idanha-a-Nova, which is chaired by Armindo Jacinto, implemented the daily consumption of organic products in José Silvestre Ribeiro Schools Group, attended by students from the 5th to the 12th grade.
"Thus, the work carried out has allowed the school to progressively include more organic foods into the menu, from soup, salad, fruit and even the main dish", states this municipality in the district of Castelo Branco.
The note also highlights that priority is given to local food products, to promote local economy and reduction of carbon emissions.
The initiative is part of the pilot project of Biological School meals promoted by the Government and led by the General Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development (DGADR) with the goal of including biological products in the menus.
The working group in which the municipality belongs was created within the scope of the National Strategy for Organic Agriculture and also involves the Directorate-General for Education and Directorate-General for Health, as well as other public administration entities and schools.
