In a statement, the GNR said that the Lisbon Territorial Command, through the Criminal Investigation Centre (NIC) arrested eight men aged between 27 and 55 for drug trafficking, illegal possession of a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon, in the municipalities of Sintra, Vila Franca de Xira, in the Lisbon district, and Lagos, in Faro.
The GNR said that the investigation for drug trafficking had been going on for about 18 months.
During the operation, the military served 16 search warrants, 11 at home and five in garages, culminating in the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of various materials.
During the operation, 30 kilos of hashish, 287 doses of cannabis, 46 doses of cocaine, two cannabis stalks, three vehicles, four firearms, seven knives, 118 ammunition, five precision scales, 18 mobile phones and 2,110 Euros in cash were seized.
This operation was reinforced by the Criminal Investigation Centre of the Faro Territorial Command, the GNR Intervention Unit and with the support of the Public Safety Police.
The detainees will be present at the Loures Judicial Court for the application of coercive measures.
