According to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) 687 people with Covid-19 are hospitalised today, one less than on Thursday, 143 of which are in intensive care, two more.

The area of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, with 838 new cases and the North region, with 948, have 71.2 percent of the total of new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (5), in the Centre region (3) and in the Algarve (1).

Regarding the ages of the deadly victims, the bulletin records that five were over 80 years old, three between 70 and 79 years and one between 50 and 59 years.

Regarding the age profile of the new cases of confirmed infection, it is in young people between 20 and 29 years (men and women) that there have been most cases, with 704 more infected in the last 24 hours.

Next are age groups between 10 and 19 years (514 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years (342 new cases).

The data released by the DGS also shows that there are 107 more active cases, totalling 44,916, and that 2,391 people have been reported recovered in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 952,094 recovered.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 17,622 people have died in Portugal and 1,014,632 cases of infection have been recorded.

Health authorities have another 318 people under surveillance in the last 24 hours, totalling 51,027.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 838 new infections reported, has so far counted 395,619 cases and 7,538 deaths.

In the North region, 948 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 390,920 cases of infection and 5,478 deaths since the pandemic began.

In the Centre region, 332 more cases have been registered, accumulating 134,944 infections and 3,071 deaths.

In the Alentejo 92 more cases were reported, totalling 35,953 infections and 1,004 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin records 213 new cases, accumulating 37,510 infections and 419 deaths.

The Autonomous region of Madeira has recorded 51 new cases, adding 11,343 infections and 72 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now has 33 new cases, counting 8,343 cases and 40 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 467,300 men and 546,609 women in Portugal, DGS data show, according to which there are 723 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, as this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatal victims, 9,253 were men and 8,369 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 11,514 were people aged over 80, 3,778 were aged between 70 and 79, and 1,597 were aged between 60 and 69.
