In a statement, the municipality said that the intervention, which started this week and should be completed within three months, includes the redevelopment of the walls and stairs to access the beach and the stabilisation of the cliff at Praia do Peneco, among other works.
"This is a set of interventions, representing an investment of €1,002,508.35, which comprise the requalification of the staircase at Praia do Peneco, with the correction of slopes, as well as the placement of public lighting, an area with shower and foot washing, and stabilisation of the cliff”, the note reads.
With this intervention, the municipality “intends to improve the existing accessibility of the beach access stairs”, with the implementation of a walkway along the beach, between the elevator and the stairs, providing the space with support equipment.
Cited in the note, the president of that municipality in the district of Faro, José Carlos Rolo, said that the goal is to “create conditions for residents and tourists to enjoy even more” of Praia do Peneco and the surrounding area, “fostering sustainable and safe mobility ”.
“These are fundamental works for us to enhance this emblematic space in Albufeira, which has long lacked deep intervention. With this requalification, the intention is to create conditions for the inhabitants of Albufeira and tourists to enjoy this public space even more”, he noted.
Until the completion of the work, scheduled for February 2022, pedestrian and road access to the area will be restricted.
