Born of the ancient relationship between these two
seafaring nations, PORT to PORT 2023 will present music, visual art, workshops,
food, drink and more from Friday 17th at 5pm until Saturday 18th of March at
Arroz Estúdios in Lisbon.
PORT to PORT is organised by the Lisbon-based,
Cork-born, platform Garden Collective,
who have been running music, art, and poetry events in both cities for the past
six years.
One of the festival organisers, Corkman Emmet Coleman,
says: “Garden has had its roots in both Cork and Lisbon since its inception and
we're very excited to see our biggest project to date come to fruition,
building on the ever-expanding connections between these two cities, and
Ireland and Portugal as a whole.”
Originally scheduled for March 2020, the first PORT to
PORT was shuttered by the Covid-19 pandemic. Not to be put off, the festival
pivoted online, working with artists around the world to deliver an alternative
digital experience that supported musicians at a crucial time.
Now, PORT to PORT is back, in-person and better than
ever. The first acts have been released, featuring an array of genres and
styles from a diverse range of artists, with more to be announced soon.
The first cohort for the two-day festival includes
Citrus Fresh (Limerick), Elaine Malone (Cork), pôt-pot (Cork), and The
Crossover (Cork) making their way from Ireland, along with Corkonian DOUBT
journeying from his new home in Glasgow. They’ll be joining Portugal-based acts
Jhon Douglas Band, Madu & Band, Senhor Santos (originally from Ireland),
The Tourorists, Sarau Delas and Petrol Lollipop (Galicia/UK). The alternative
festival will also include improv hours from international artists Meta_ &
BomBeijo and Portuguese acts Smoked Falmon & Shaka’s lo-fi.
