The DGS epidemiological bulletin also reveals that 2,767 patients are hospitalised (245 less than on Tuesday), the lowest number since 10 November, of which 567 are in intensive care, 30 less, a number that had not been recorded since 11 January.
Today Portugal surpassed 800,000 infected by totalling 800,586 cases since the start of the pandemic.
As for deaths, since March 2020 there have been 16,136 deaths associated with Covid-19.
The data released today also indicate that 3,078 people have been reported recovered, bringing the total number of recovered since the start of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020 to 709,054.
For 24 consecutive days, the number of recovered has far outnumbered the number of new infections.
Active cases in Portugal continue to see a decrease, with 75,396 active cases today, down 1,648.
Health authorities have 63,402 contacts under surveillance, 7,365 fewer than the previous day, continuing the downward trend since 30 January.
According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, Portugal currently has 720,717 people vaccinated: 468,929 with the first dose and 251,788 with the second dose.
Of the 50 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 31 occurred in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, seven in the Centre region, seven in the North region, four in Alentejo and one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 772 new infections have been reported, with 302,785 cases and 6,730 deaths so far.
According to the bulletin, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has 52.1 percent of the total number of cases registered in the last 24 hours and 62 percent of the total number of deaths.
The Northern region now has 327 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, and since the pandemic began, 325,232 cases of infection and 5,175 deaths have been recorded.
In the Centre region, 198 more cases have been registered, with an accumulation of 114,443 infections and 2,877 deaths.
In Alentejo 84 more cases were reported, totalling 28,308 infections and 933 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.
The Algarve region has 51 new cases reported today, adding 19,944 infections and 332 deaths.
Madeira registered 45 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 6,146 infections and 61 deaths due to covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of Azores registered three new cases in the last 24 hours and notified in total 3,728 infections and 28 deaths.
The confirmed cases are spread across all age groups, with the highest number of infections registered between 20 and 59 years old.
The new coronavirus has already infected at least 362,012 men and 438,303 women in Portugal, according to data from the DGS.
Of the total number of deaths, 8,434 were men and 7,702 were women.
The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
Of the total deaths, 10,717 were people aged over 80, 3,379 were aged between 70 and 79 and 1,417 were aged between 60 and 69.
